I think Student B is right. When we ear the coat we feel warm because it retains our body heat but the snowman doesn't have any so all it does it prevent warm air from entering(?) and retaining the coolness(?).

Name the physical process(es) of heat transfer involved and describe how the coat affects this process(es).
These are the "physics" part of answers expected of qualitative questions in general.

i think student B is right. the coat traps air and retains our body heat.

However, somehow i think that the snowman itself does have some heat so maybe retaining the heat would cause the snowman to melt.

but if the atmosphere temperature is low enough, the coat might not make much of a difference, but i guess this has to be kind of very low

You have a relevant point about comparing the temperature of the snowman with the surrounding air temperature.
Heat flows from a region of higher to a region of lower temperature, while the coat acts as an insulator reducing this tranfer of heat.
